Counting Displays
For the Women's Apparel, Juniors Apparel, and Coats/Outerwear, we need to know how much space is occupied by each category.
You will count the total displays by category. Let us show you how!
Counting Racks
You will most likely see these very long racks, but it's important we do not count them as one rack because we definitely want to see the fluctuation in space that occurs between seasons!
We are using the display counts as a proxy for inventory, so it's vital not to count the physical displays, we want the fluctuation in how much inventory is on displays every month.
To get the best count, you will want to break the racks up by every set of legs, with each set of legs counting as its own rack. For example, in the photo below, you can see a set of legs - everything to the right of those legs would be one display, and everything to the left a second display.
Pushing inventory together to get an accurate display count.
While racks may seem "full" it's quite likely there is a lot of space between items based on how Burlington stocks their inventory.
To get an accurate count, we want to push all of the inventory to the end of the rack so we can decide if the rack is a full 1 display count or more like a 1/2 display count (or less!).
This may seem a bit awkward, but remember, we are trying to get an idea of how much inventory is there, so it's a necessary step. It's pretty quick to do and nobody at Burlington will pay much attention to you!
If we look at the photo below, the blue line is the empty space after the inventory is pushed together - making a "full" 1 display more like 1/2 of a display.
Similarly on this rack, once the inventory is pushed together the rack is much less "full" than when the inventory is spread out.
For these long racks your counts may be 1 for a really full display, or 3/4 (0.75), 1/2 (0.50), or 1/4 (0.25). There's not much need to go down past 0.25 unless it's just a super tiny amount of inventory.
You will also likely run into some four arm t-racks at the end of the long floor racks. For these displays, each arm should be counted as 1/4 (0.25) of a display.
If you encounter any Tables or Shelves each surface of the table or each shelf should be counted as 1 individual display.
