Lululemon Project
Lululemon Athletica was founded in Vancouver, Canada in 1998 by surfer/snowboarder-turned-yoga fanatic Chip Wilson. Chip believed that cotton fabric was not conducive for sweaty power yoga, and built his business on using high-end technical athletic fabrics to make clothes for yogis.
Lululemon grew incredibly fast in the US initially, but between trouble with their core product and so much competition joining the market in recent years, that growth has stalled out, so we're trying to get a sense of Lululemon's future potential. Has Lululemon's focus on customer satisfaction led to a loyal customer base that will continue buying its products, or are its relatively high-priced goods a fad that will eventually die down? Are competitors undercutting Lululemon's prices capturing some of their market share? Is Lululemon introducing new kinds of products to broaden its target market and appeal?
Store Metrics
In this project, we will be conducting research into Lululemon apparel for both Women and Men. We are especially interested in pricing and promotions as the company starts to mark down more items in-store without announcing a sale.
We’ll be asking you to help us learn the answers to the following questions, which we’ll explain more about in this learning module:
- Pricing: How much do different categories of Lululemon apparel cost?
- Stock Level: How well-stocked are Lululemon stores?
- Promotions: Are Lululemon items on sale? What are the details?
- Fast & Free: How much inventory from this line is carried in your store?
- In-Store Traffic: How many shoppers are in the store? How many people are checking out?
