Ollie's Bargain Outlet Project Overview

Welcome to the Ollie's Bargain Outlet Project!
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet is one of America’s largest retailers of closeout merchandise and excess inventory. You’ll find real brands at real bargain prices in every department, from housewares to sporting goods to flooring and to food.
Much of the merchandise comes directly from manufacturers in the country and abroad. For example, if a manufacturer makes too much of an item, or changes its packaging, Ollie’s will buy the overstocked or old packaged items. So, you can find brand-name products at Ollie’s, but a lot of them could be last year’s colors, patterns, or packaging that traditional retailers won’t sell.
You can learn more about the store by visiting their website.
Store Metrics
In this project, we will be conducting research into how specific product categories are displayed, priced, and promoted.
We will be asking you to help gain insight into the following questions, utilizing the Haynes and Company common metrics:
- Effective Pricing: What were the min, max, mode selling price for each product category?
- Promotions: Were any of the product categories on promotion? If so, what type of promotion?
- Total Linear inches by Category: How much selling space did each product category occupy?
- Special Brands: Were any special brands seen? (we will be collecting this data for only certain product categories)
- Traffic: How many people are shopping? Did they make a purchase?
To learn more about how to count these metrics specifically inside of Ollie's please move through the rest of the learning guide.
