Counting Store Traffic
Vendors will conduct a store traffic count EVERY VISIT. While the visit window for the in-store data collection is Mon-Sat/Sun, Traffic counts MUST be completed on Saturday or Sunday.
Details for the Store Traffic counts:
- Traffic counts must be completed between 12-5pm on Saturday OR 1-5 pm on Sunday. Traffic counts that are conducted outside of one of these time frames will be considered incomplete and subject to non-payment.
- Traffic needs to be counted for 45 continuous minutes and must be completed by 5pm. This means traffic counts cannot start any later than 4:15pm in order to be completed within the required window.
- Traffic counting must take place at your assigned location, you cannot pick the location for the store visits or the traffic counts.
- You can easily count traffic from your car, but you must find an unobstructed view of the front entrance.
- Refer to the Traffic Counting Basics for suggestions on easy ways to capture traffic data.
What to Count:
The counting is very easy! You will simply count and report the total number of people exiting the store. You do not need to count shoppers entering AND exiting.
Exiting Shoppers will be counted as:
- No Bags: Shoppers leaving with NO shopping bags and/or items in their hands
- A Small Purchase: Shoppers leaving with one shopping bag and/or items in hand
- A Medium Purchase: Shoppers leaving with two shopping bag and/or items in hand
- A Large Purchase: Shoppers leaving with multiple shopping bags or a cart
Who to Count:
- All shoppers exiting who appear to be 18+ years old
- If there is a group of shoppers, count every shopper who appears 18+
- If there is a family, only count shoppers who appear 18+ (do not include children in your counts)
For shoppers exiting in a group, EACH shopper needs to be categorized. For example, if 4 adults exit, but only one shopper has two bags, you'd record:
- 3 No Shopping Bags
- 1 Medium Purchase
For Families, ONLY adults need to be categorized. For example, if you saw a family exiting with two adults and 3 children, and one adult held one bag, you'd record:
- 1 No Shopping bags
- 1 Small Purchase
- You would not record anything for the children
The Traffic survey is very simple and can be completed on your phone from the field. The survey looks like this:
