Clearance Section: Hints, Tips & Suggestions
Clearance can be a little overwhelming, especially when there is a lot of it. The best way to tackle a big and messy Clearance section is through some thoughtful sampling.
- Flip through the racks and get a good idea of the MIN/MAX/MODE starting prices by category. The best way to do this is to set a number for a sample - for example, look at 7-10 items and use those for your pricing sample.
- Grab your sample from different parts of the rack and different types of materials so that you can get a well-rounded sample
- You will inevitably run into the same items multiple times, there is no need to look at anything more than once
- Be selective in the prices you write down, remember, you only need to write down a price if it is a different starting price than what you have already seen
- Once you feel like you have a good grasp of the pricing for the category, stop and move on
Remember:
- The merchandise in Clearance Sections *does* factor into each category's Percentage (%) of Inventory ON Promotion
- Also, be sure to include final prices found on Clearance merchandise in your Effective Pricing (Min/Max/Mode). Most often, your Min price will be in Clearance.
