Apparel Promotions

You will also be capturing data regarding any promotional activity occurring for the brands/categories.
Please be certain to only collect promotional activity for the brands/categories we are collecting data on. It is important to read the promotional signage thoroughly to ensure the promotion pertains to the appropriate products and the sign is not simply in the wrong place.
You will record all relevant items that are on promotion. Sometimes the stores will have more than one promotion at the same time, so if you see these, please collect data accordingly.

Promotion Types
Promotions are usually easily identifiable in stores, with various signage and/or stickers marked on price tags. Click here to learn more about promotion types.
The following are types of promotions that you will most likely to encounter in the Apparel department. Click on each of the following links to review in detail basic data points on how to collect the following promotion types.
- Sales Items (new price or percent off)
- Product Bundles (lower price offered when you buy more than one item)
- Buy-one-Get-one (new price and percent off)
Depending on the promotion type, you will record the following information into your datasheet:
- Style Counts
- The percent discount/new sale price
- The original starting price
- The minimum spend amount
Clearance
Be sure to check any Clearance Section at all of your stores you may find Athletic brands mixed in with other products.
The promotions will most often be new price discounts or percent off discounts, but we want to be sure not to miss any deep discounts that may be happening on clearance!
Don't be overwhelmed by Clearance, remember, we are only looking for a specific type of clothing made by specific brands.
Percentage of Inventory on Promotion
In the survey, you will be asked to estimate the Percent of inventory on promotion.
For example:
If all Nike Women's Tops are 25% off, you would note that 100% of the Nike Tops are on sale.
But, if only two racks out of about 14 total racks of Nike Women's Tops are on sale, you would record that 14% of Nike Women's Tops are on promotion and 86% are off promotion.
The percent of styles on and off promotion must equal 100%.
