Breaking Data Out by Brand
It may seem a little overwhelming to collect data for ALL of the brands inside of an Ulta! But some steps make it very manageable. Flexing your math skills will be vital to your success on this project.
As laid out, for Face/Skin/Nail categories you will be collecting data individually by brand. This means we do need data for ALL BRANDS IN THE STORE that carry these categories.
- If you see a brand, and it has at least one item in one of our covered categories, you need to collect data for those categories.
- If you see a brand that has items in multiple categories, some of which we are not collecting data on, you only need to collect data for the categories in our data set
- For example, if you see a brand that carries Makeup and Shampoo, you will only collect the data on the Makeup for that brand and ignore the Shampoo products.
Some brands will only have some of the product categories while other brands will have all of the product categories.
Regardless of how many different product categories the brand carries, if it carries at least one item in our product categories, you need to collect data for that brand.
Most Stores will organize by brand, so it is quite easy to just do one brand at a time and then move to the next.
Do not try to memorize the list of brands (it's quite extensive) and it does change about 4x a year with new product roll outs. Just memorize the product categories. Then once you're in the store and use your Google Sheet, you'll know exactly what brands you should collect data on.
